Mr. Scheer is a principal of SLG. Mr. Scheer graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara (B.A. 2001), with a degree in Political Science. Mr. Scheer earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, MA (2005). Mr. Scheer was recognized for academic excellence during his law school years, graduating with Distinction. During law school, Mr. Scheer spent a summer abroad at the University of Lund in Sweden, studying comparative law and legal ethics. Also while attending law school, Mr. Scheer worked as a legal intern for a certified NFL agent, assisting in the negotiation and preparation of contracts.
Mr. Scheer heads up the SLG Southern California office and also manages the SLG bankruptcy department. He has trial and law and motion experience in state and federal courts. His focus is on all aspects of creditor transaction and litigation matters in state and federal courts, including: Chapter 13 and 11 plan review and litigation, lender and broker fraud litigation, real estate transaction work including preparation of loan workout agreements, and forbearance and loan modification agreements. Mr. Scheer is admitted to practice in all California state courts and in Federal Courts in the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern District of California as well as the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Scheer is a past chair of the Real Property Section of the Marin County Bar Association and a current member of the Orange County Bar Association and the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum. He has been a featured speaker at various events including the Sacramento Valley Bankruptcy Forum (2007), the California Credit Union Collectors Council (2010-2023), the Marin County Bar Association, Real Property Section (2010-2016), the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (2016, 2017) and various real estate and investor events and conferences, speaking primarily on creditor rights in bankruptcy and significant developments in insolvency law. Mr. Scheer received a designation as a Northern California “Super Lawyer” by the Thomson Reuters group which recognizes excellence in practice. He has been selected to the Northern California Super Lawyers list as published in Super Lawyers Magazine and San Francisco Magazine every year since 2013, including 2023.
Mr. Scheer is active in the Bankruptcy community and is on the Insolvency Law Committee of the Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association. Mr. Scheer also volunteers for ABI’s CARE Los Angeles Chapter to help educate high school students about the perils of debt and bankruptcy. Mr. Scheer lives in Orange County with his wife and three kids and heads up SLG’s Southern California office. Mr. Scheer is an avid Boston sports fan.
